In order to positively progress the state of male health across the globe, men and woman alike need to be aware of the very real health issues faced by men.

Health issues faced by men differ depending on age. Find out more below:

[Health issues for men]

A general reluctance to access health services or to attend regular medical check ups is an attitude common to men of all ages which only exacerbates this issue.

Men access health services 30 to 40% less than women. This resistance makes the prevention and early detection of many common diseases far less effective than it could be.

Men generally avoid accessing a health service for one or many of the following reasons:

- "I'm too busy and don't have the time to see a Doctor"
- "She'll be right, it will clear up tomorrow"
- "I'm fit, I don't need to see a Doctor"
- Some men may have had a bad experience with a health service and believe they know their health better than the experts
- Some men would rather not know what's wrong with them believing it will simply go away
- Some men just don't want to admit they're sick and would rather not talk about their health

In regional areas, men are even more reluctant to seek health advice and services. In addition to the reasons mentioned above, the following facts also contribute to the problem:

- There is a lack of health services
- They are often self employed and can't afford to take the time off work
- The health practitioner is often known to them and they would prefer not to talk about health issues with someone they know
