Eighteen months ago my brother-in-law was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had surgery and a round of chemo and radiation treatment and as of December 2011, he was in remission.
The cancer had reappeared by late January 2012 and had spread to his bowel and spine. Unfortunately, the tumour in his spine was inoperable, therefore his condition, regardless of whether the bowel tumours were removed, became terminal. He underwent another round of chemo and radiation but the tumour in his spine increased in size. He was given 12 – 18 months and passed away on September 4, 2012, aged just 39. He never got the chance to see his four children, aged 7-14, grow into adults.
