Paralympian and World Champion Kurt Fearnley is taking on one of the biggest challenges for men’s health - crawling the 100 odd kilometers of the Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea to raise money for Movember.
Calling it "his biggest challenge yet" Kurt will team up with some of his closest friends and family and crawl for up to 12 days to raise money for men’s health. Kurt, who lost an uncle who suffered from depression, wants to raise money and awareness for depression. By crawling the Kokoda track, Kurt hopes to demonstrate a willingness to work as a team but importantly, to be prepared to ask and receive help, often a challenge for Australian men.
As he mentioned to the Age newspaper, "I lost a family member to depression," he says. "Blokes in the country find it hard to talk to other fellas. If you're in a position to turn to your friend, to turn to your brother, your cousin, you can ask for help. So much more can be accomplished - even the toughest of tasks. Even a guy in a wheelchair can feel confident enough to crawl the Kokoda Trail."
This Sunday November 1st, Kurt is taking part in his fourth New York Marathon where he’ll be after his fourth consecutive marathon victory.
Kurt and his team are registered under the name Crawling Mokoda. For updates on Kurt’s progress check out his
