Whether you’re a newbie, an experienced player or a pro, find like-minded gamers to join your squad through a new series of ‘matchmaking’ events by the WellPlayed Project.

On Sunday March 17 from 1.30 - 5.00pm (AEST), the WellPlayed crew will kick off the second event in a series to run throughout 2019. Play Atlas Reactor and Ring of Elysium free, either at home or through a booking at Zen Gaming Lounge Melbourne or the new QUT e-Sports Arena (Brisbane).

The events link up Aussie gamers based on their preferred playstyle, with the aim of helping gamers make social connections, both online and offline.

Established by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Games Research Lab, the WellPlayed Project is funded through Movember’s Social Innovators Challenge, a $5.6 million investment grant for outside-the-box projects aimed at strengthening social connections for men from all walks of life.

Dr Daniel Johnson, Director of QUT Games Research Lab says: “There are just so many people out there for whom a gaming community could be so pivotal in their life. We want those guys to get involved with our events for a real chance to explore the positives and connect through video games.”

The WellPlayed team have made it easy to be matched with a squad of four based on your preferred playstyle or alternatively, you can form a squad with your mates. It’s a great way to introduce friends to online gameplay, with Steam and Discord how-to guides and game-ready info on the website.

For further insights on the game or to brush up your existing skills, a QUT eSports coach will also be streaming a Ring of Elysium tutorial immediately before the event.

Dr Johnson said the most surprising thing about WellPlayed’s last event, the Movember Videogame Challenge held in November 2018, was the atmosphere.

“Every squad was laughing and shouting their way through tightly fought Brawhalla matches. The feedback we had was that it was an awesome way to connect with new people in a relaxed environment,” Dr Johnson said. “We’re now looking forward to seeing what the reaction is to Atlas Reactor and Ring of Elysium.

“By being part of the event you’ll help us test prototype features and support the Movember Foundation as we research the best ways to connect people through casual gaming.”
