Each year, local communities embrace the moustache and get on board with Movember. The young, the old and everyone in between, cities, suburbs and towns across Australia, can be seen doing their bit for men’s health. The levels and types of support vary from one community to another but the combined efforts play a vital role in helping Movember achieve its vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.
By effectively becoming walking, talking billboards for men’s health, Mo Bros, assisted by their Mo Sistas, have spread positive health messages far wider than ever originally anticipated. It is this passionate on the ground action that gives Movember its edge and ability to make a real impact.
There are so many ways a community can get involved with Movember. If you want to know more, read on for information and ideas.

Movember at Work in the Community
From Moama to ‘Motown’
In what is thought to be an Australian first, the township of Moama on the border of NSW and Victoria, changed its name to ‘Motown’ for the month of November. To cement their support, official town sign posts were altered, shop fronts sported moustaches, Mo events were held and the majority of residents, including the mayor and local politicians all grew moustaches.
Mousdash
Each year The Weekend Warrior boys in Brisbane organise a run called the Mousdash; enabling Mo Bros, Mo Sistas and their donors to give more than just a little sweat to the Movember cause. It’s a great way for everyone to get involved and encourages the Movember community to get out there and do something a little bit healthy.
Hamilton Island
"Over the past 5 years Movember has given us ‘the community of Hamilton Island”. Movember has provided us with the opportunity to come together in a variety of fun, energetic and downright hilarious activities, that have brought the community closer together. From 5 star dining events to themed party nights we have found Movember the perfect platform in engaging people from all age groups and backgrounds. There is nothing more rewarding then working with a group of dedicated and fun loving folk on a project as worthy as Movember and men’s health."
- Justin Blank, Entertainment Coordinator, Hamilton Island
Air Ambulance Victoria
Their day job is responding to people who require rapid transport to a major hospital. But, come Movember, this crew of twenty four and one helicopter responded to the Movember call-to-action and grew Mo’s for Movember. Their fundraising and awareness efforts were a great boost to the campaign.
Morning of the Mo
The Morning of the Mo surf event is held each year in Byron in support of Movember. Reliving the glory days captured by Albe Falzon in the Morning of the Earth surf movie, the event brings back the Mo to surf fashion and helps engage the surf community in health issues. All competitors are required to sport a Mo and ride a pre 1980's stick to enter.
Kurt Fearnley
During Movember 2009, paralympian, Kurt Fearnley, challenged himself to crawl the gruelling 96km Kokoda Trail in Papu New Guinea in support of Movember. It was an incredible display of support and gave Movember’s awareness campaign an incredible boost.
Food Folk
In 2010 we had weighty support from the foodie and hospitality corner; with one of the country's most decorated sommeliers, Matt Skinner, and Spanish food giant Frank Camorra of Movida both acting as official Movember ambassadors, we were also blessed by the involvement of Shannon Bennett and his Vue de Monde crew, and of their Sydney peers, Flying Fish and the Shangri La Hotel. A scrumptious group of individuals
The Bondi Rescue Life Guards
Well known faces of health and good living – showed their support for the betterment of men’s health by helping to build a monster sandcastle Mo, or Mo-Castle as we like to call it, at the iconic Bondi Beach. Award winning sculptor, Jino van Bruinessen, one of only five sand sculptors operating in Australia, was responsible for creating the first Movember sand sculpture on record. He was joined on the day by Bondi Rescue Lifeguards Hoppo and Kerbox, Movember Mo Sista ambassadors Amanda Hinchcliffe and Kate Hurst.
