On November 19, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. Our theme for 2024 is “ZERO MALE SUICIDE”. Together we can stop male suicide.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we seek.” It is only when we all, both men and women, lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society that allows everyone the opportunity to prosper.

Suicidal behaviours are defined as thinking about or planning taking one’s own life (suicidal ideation) or attempting suicide.

Understanding the prevalence of suicidal behaviours in Australia is important as this may help to reduce stigma, increase help-seeking behaviour and improve suicide prevention activities.

Many people experience thoughts of suicide:

In 2023, there were 3,214 deaths by suicide. The age-standardised suicide rate was 11.8 per 100,000.

Three-quarters of people who died by suicide were male.

Men had a higher age-standardised suicide rate (18.0 per 100,000) than women (5.8 per 100,000).

Males aged 55-59 years had the highest age-specific suicide rate. Males aged 45-49 years accounted for the largest proportion of deaths due to suicide (10%).

Females aged 50-54 years had the highest age-specific suicide rate (10.0 deaths per 100,000). They accounted for the largest proportion of female suicide deaths (11%).

People who experience suicidal ideation and make suicide plans are at increased risk of suicide attempts and those who experience all forms of suicidal thoughts and behaviours are at greater risk of dying by suicide

It is Monday the 14th of October 2024, and with the incredible support of the caring communities of Mackay and Whitsundays I have individually been able to raise $ 33,890 with the contributions of 295 generous donors to be Australia’s Highest Individual Fund Raiser for Movember till date again in 2024 and 2nd worldwide. In all the caring communities of Mackay and Whitsundays have helped me raise an amazing $ 678,117 since 2008 for Movember Foundation and I am proud to be their Movember Community Ambassador and Hall of Fame Member. I have covered 348.5 kms (5.808 times the 60 kms) and 168.5 kms more than the 180 kms pledged for the months of July, August and September at 60 km/month as part of my pledge to run/walk 60 km every month during this Movember 2024 campaign from 1st July 2024 till the end of the campaign for the 60 men who die each day globally from suicide every hour that is 1 every minute of every day.

It is Monday the 30th of September 2024, and with the incredible support of the caring communities of Mackay and Whitsundays I have individually been able to raise $ 26,505 with the contributions of 251 generous donors to be Australia’s Highest Individual Fund Raiser for Movember till date again in 2024 and 3rd worldwide. In all the caring communities of Mackay and Whitsundays have helped me raise an amazing $ 670,732 since 2008 for Movember Foundation and I am proud to be their Movember Community Ambassador and Hall of Fame Member. In all the caring communities of Mackay and Whitsundays have helped me raise an amazing $ 668,487 since 2008 for Movember Foundation and I am proud to be their Movember Community Ambassador and Hall of Fame Member. As of today -12th of September 2024, the 2nd Thursday in September 2024 and ‘ R U OK’ Day, I have individually been able to raise $ 23,915 with the contributions of 216 generous donors to be Australia’s Highest Individual Fund Raiser for Movember till date again in 2024 and 3rd worldwide. In all I have raised an amazing $ 668,142 since 2008 for Movember Foundation with the support of a caring community in Mackay and Whitsundays and am proud to be a Movember Community Ambassador and Hall of Fame Member.
