$0

Target: $2,500
raised $4,765 since 2010
My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Prostate cancer
Testicular cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

This year I’m taking part in Movember to spark conversations, raise awareness, and support the wellbeing of men everywhere.

It has been a tough year for those around me. I have supported mates through marriage break-ups, personal loss, and mental health struggles. It reminded me how many men carry heavy stuff quietly and how powerful a simple check-in or honest chat can be.

So here I am, growing a moustache to shine a light on men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. If my upper lip can help spark a conversation, a smile, or even a laugh, it is worth it.

Today marks my final Movember post and as promised, I’m strutting around the office with my best attempt at Ron Burgundy (sorry, no wig).
What started as a simple “suggest a character” fundraiser escalated donations to reach my fundraising goal very quickly. Today’s outfit is the Anchorman special… and let’s just say the reactions around the office so far have been worth every awkward stare.

While the laughs have been great, the cause behind it matters even more. Men’s mental health still needs attention, conversation and support. While my fundraising target has been reached, I’d love to push beyond $2,000 in these final days. Every contribution supports programs that help men stay connected, speak up and seek help when they need it.

If you’ve enjoyed following along… had a laugh at my mo… or just want to get behind an important cause, please donate!

You had me at Magnum P.I!

Great work Mark. Whilst the Mo is undoubtably lush and glorious, I applaud you for also bringing attention to the serious purpose that Movember is raising funds for. Well done on putting yourself out there and championing such an important cause!

Today’s look is brought to you by Magnum P.I. … or at least my best attempt at it.

The results of the character challenge are in and, in true democratic spirit, I decided to give the people what they wanted … both characters. Magnum P.I. today, and Ron Burgundy later this week. Stay tuned for that visual treat.

This is all part of my Movember fundraising, and while the dress-ups are fun, the purpose behind them is important. Men’s mental health remains a serious issue in Australia. According to Beyond Blue, Every day in Australia, nine people die by suicide, seven of them are men. Too many still struggle quietly, unsure how or when to ask for help.
If dressing up as two moustache icons in one week helps spark even a single honest conversation … then it’s absolutely worth it.

Movember – Week 2 Update

Week 2 has kicked off with a level of moustache commitment I can only describe as bold, brave, and borderline questionable.

Over the weekend I attended what may look like a dress-up party… but was, in fact, a family wedding. Yes, I walked into a perfectly respectable ceremony looking unintentionally like Manuel from Fawlty Towers — tray-carrying energy and all.

To my wife’s absolute dismay, the mo stayed. The vows were beautiful, the décor was classy, and then there was me… providing contrast.

We’ve now entered the “fully visible and making its own decisions” stage of moustache growth. The styling phase is still a week or so away, so for now I’m simply co-existing with it and hoping it behaves itself in meetings.

Thanks for following along and supporting a great cause.

Week 1 Movember Update:

Week one is officially behind me, and the moustache has entered its next evolutionary phase. I’ve successfully moved past the “framing stage”, where it politely outlined my upper lip, and I’m now deep in the “unruly stage”, that awkward middle period where it refuses to behave, insists on growing in multiple directions at once, and makes me question every life choice that led me here.

The good news? It is coming along. The bad news? I’m not yet at the stylish, sculptable, “maybe he knows what he’s doing” stage. That’s still ahead of us… hopefully.

There have already been a few moments last week where I’ve looked in the mirror and wondered whether growing a mo was a wise idea. To keep myself on track,
I’ve turned to some mo-tivational music to push through the hesitation and embrace the chaos.

Current playlist includes:
- Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen
- Mr. Electric Blue - Benson Boone
- Mo Money Mo Problems - The Notorious B.I.G.
- Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars

If you’ve got other tracks that scream moustache ambition, send them my way. And if my upper-lip journey has made you smile, smirk, or laugh at my expense, feel free to donate. Consider it a small fee for entertainment services rendered.
Onward to Week 2 and, with any luck, the stylable stage.

Note: As donations can be made privately, not all donations are displayed to the public.
