test For the second year running, Movember has partnered with The Push-Up Challenge to deliver an epic mental health event.
The Push-Up Challenge is all about connection, getting physically and mentally fit, and raising funds for mental health and suicide prevention.
Join us and together, we can push for better mental health.
3,144 is the number of push-ups to complete in 23 days from June 1. This number marks the Aussie lives lost to suicide in 2021 – and helps shine a light on the alarming prevalence of male suicide in our country.
Every day we lose more than 6 men to suicide in Oz, with men accounting for around three quarters of national suicides.
Movember is calling on all Australians to come together, get fit and have fun for The Push-Up Challenge. Your support will fund lifesaving mental health and suicide prevention projects that support at-risk men and reduce the rate of suicide – and you'll improve your own health and wellbeing. Together, we can push for better mental health.
First, you’ll need to register. Head to the registration page [LINK HERE] where you can register as an individual, create a team, or join an existing team. Signing up with your mates is a great way to stay motivated throughout the challenge – and there’s nothing like a bit of healthy encouragement to get through one more rep.
The goal is 3,144 push-ups. This figure represents the number of Australian lives lost to suicide in 2021. That’s a lot of push-ups, so you’ve got the option to aim for half of the target. You're also welcome to do alternative exercises if push-ups aren't for you. Sit-ups, squats or any other exercise that tickles your fancy are all eligible.
Raise donations through your daily exertions. Help fund initiatives to stop men dying too young. As you sweat it out each day, rally your community for donations – and know that you're helping push for better mental health. Be prepared for an experience that will do all kinds of good for you, your mates, and men everywhere.
The Push-Up Challenge is all about helping people push for better mental health. For instance, did you know that half of men who die by suicide have been in contact with mental health services prior to their death? We can stop men slipping through the cracks by developing more targeted mental health and suicide prevention programs. Early intervention can save lives, prevent potentially lifelong mental illness, and help support men before they reach crisis point.
Working together, we can prevent men from slipping through the cracks by raising funds for Movember through initiatives like The Push-Up Challenge. Your commitment and fundraising efforts will help us develop more targeted mental health and suicide prevention programs, like Men in Mind. This Movember-funded online professional training program for therapists, aims to bridge the gap between what clinicians can offer and what men who seek counseling truly need.
Despite the growing number of men seeking treatment, many drop out – and the number of men taking their own lives is increasing. This highlights the need for better treatment plans that truly engage men the way they need to be engaged. Men in Mind is a first-of-its-kind comprehensive and evidence-based training course for practitioners who counsel men. Developed by clinicians and supported by years of research, Men in Mind is designed to equip mental health clinicians with the skills to build effective treatment plans that engage and connect with men.
The Push-Up Challenge is exactly what it says in the title. First held in 2018, it’s a physical challenge where you do push-ups to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention and men’s mental health. Movember is the official fundraising partner for The Push-Up Challenge.

No – but we’d love it if you gave it a red-hot crack. If you think your arms will turn to jelly snakes before the 23rd of June, you can try alternative exercises like sit-ups, planks, squats, deadlifts, burpees (which are harder, but you do you), Russian twists, or anything else you can think of. As long as they’re repetitive and they burn (in the good, healthy, gettin’ stronger kind of way), you’re right to go.
Yes – participating as a team is a great motivator for hitting those targets. We love sponsoring and promoting events. Get in contact and tell us what you have in mind. HOW TO CONTACT.
Glad you asked. The funds you help raise go to the Push For Better Foundation, a registered charity in Australia. Movember is one of the beneficiaries of the Foundation. You can read more about their beneficiaries here.

No worries – participants can choose a level of involvement from 25% to 100%, averaging 149 push-ups per day.
If push-ups aren't for you, get creative. Do push-ups on your knees, against a wall, or with any other exercise you can think of. You also get three rest days to give your arms a break.
Once you’re signed up, you’ll receive daily motivation and mental health statistics and updates to support your goal. Help spread awareness, start important conversations, and finish each day stronger and mental-health smarter.
