My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Prostate cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

Earlier this year my darling dad was diagnosed with primary prostate cancer and primary lung cancer.

I know I speak for a lot of his friends and family when I say what a shock it was to learn and accept that this loving, funny and widely adored legend would suddenly have to face such a scary and uncertain battle.

He has been so brave on his journey, through multiple surgeries, invasive tests and hospital stays. He missed his nephew’s wedding in Europe and copped a stay in ICU while half his family were out of the country. He’s bravely taken it all on the chin and has remained his cheeky, humorous self. We are so proud of him.

I have decided to do something that is hard for me as a gesture to honour the challenge he is currently facing.

I have signed up for point to pinnacle with the Hobart Mobros and will be raising funds for Movember as part of it.

However, as I have been running consistently for several years, I wanted to add something a bit more unexpected to the challenge.

Lord knows I love a party so to level up the challenge I’m also giving up alcohol until I take on the mountain.* This time, I will have to get my carbs from a source other than beer.

I have chosen to raise funds for Movember because of their work in supporting prostate cancer but also men’s mental health. It’s hard for men to acknowledge trauma and seek help and support because they feel pressure to remain stoic all the time. Movember are campaigning to change that, which could make such a difference to men facing challenges, whether it be a cancer diagnosis or a challenge of a different kind.

I would be immensely grateful for your support by way of a donation of any size, and I know dad and the rest of the family will be too.

*I am going to donate $100 to buy myself 2 days off when I see my best friend in Perth in October, the gals are overdue for a marg. BUT no other donations will buy a day off, leave my rubber arm alone.
