“We need to be more proactive about our health, and need to take an active part in our health and wellbeing.” – Sanjeev Bandi

As a urologist in Mackay, Mo Bro Sanjeev has seen the devastating effects of prostate and testicular cancer first-hand. Now he’s on a mission to help men with these cancers – and stop them from dying too young.

For Sanjeev it all began in 1996, when he graduated as an expert in the urology field. Since then, he’s been on the front line – working with men as they find their way through their prostate and testicular cancer diagnoses. It was during this time that Sanjeev began to notice where men needed some extra help, particularly around understanding the diseases and the importance of early detection.

Like the true Mo Legend he is, Sanjeev took it upon himself to develop new digital applications that provide men with easy to understand information on prostate and testicular cancer. He also took it upon himself to find ways to get more men talking about their health, including how to detect these cancers early which can dramatically improve a man’s chances of survival.

“The macho image of the Aussie male where asking for help in regards to health is considered being ‘weak’ should be shelved. The more men who feel at ease talking about health issues, the better.” Sanjeev explains.

It’s this notion that inspired Sanjeev to lead the charge for Movember in Mackay – initiating important conversations for men along the way.

From writing extensively about men’s health, to building a Movember team made up of individuals who have been through their own cancer experiences, and raising over $250,000 for Movember since 2011 – Sanjeev is one Mo Bro who has truly helped to change the face of men’s health.
