“As a very proud Tasmanian, I’m incredibly humbled and honoured to be representing all the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas who’ve supported us over so many years.”

A huge congratulations to Tassie legend and much-loved Mo Bro, Tommy Windsor, who has been named Tasmania’s Local Hero in this year’s Australian of the Year Awards.

Up against some truly remarkable nominees in the Local Hero category, Tommy was recognised last night in Canberra for his incredible fundraising efforts after founding the Mobart Mo Bros back in 2006.

The passionate team of Mo Bros and Sistas from Hobart are now edging towards raising a million dollars for men’s health. And as Captain, Tommy has led the men’s health movement on the Apple Isle for the past 14 years - from fronting up the media, to organising fundraising events such as the iconic Mobart Gala, or running up the heights of Mount Wellington for the gruelling Point to Pinnacle.

“As a very proud Tasmanian, I’m incredibly humbled and honoured to be representing all the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas who’ve supported us over so many years, and rapt that the significant causes we are so passionate about are being recognised on such a broad scale,” said Tommy.

“We’ve achieved a lot over the past 14 years, especially in terms of changing men’s attitudes to both their physical and mental health, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do to stop men dying too young.”

Movember Country Director (Asia Pacific) Rachel Carr said: “We are thrilled to see Tommy gain much-deserved national recognition - alongside a host of truly remarkable individuals - as Tasmania’s Local Hero in this year’s Australian of the Year Awards.

“After losing his dad to depression, Tommy has shown an unwavering commitment to the cause, working alongside Movember to change the face of men’s health.

“His incredible fundraising efforts and tireless contribution as a Community Ambassador for more than a decade has been instrumental in starting thousands of conversations about men’s mental health and suicide prevention, not just in Tassie, but right across the country.”

Tommy’s commitment to the cause has ensured the Mobart Mo Bros have been Australia’s top fundraising team for the past five years running.

Movember encourages people to reach out to the men in their lives, start conversations, ask the deeper question and listen to what they have to say. You don’t need to be an expert to help someone else, or be the sole solution. But being there for them, listening and giving your time can be life-saving.

If you’re concerned about your mental health, or a mate’s mental health, Movember recommends encouraging them to see a doctor, or call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
