Mackay urologist Dr Sanjeev praises the support from his local community in his mission to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.

“We need to work together to improve the health and wellbeing of men worldwide, and Movember has given me the opportunity to spread the word.” – Sanjeev Bandi

As a urologist, Sanjeev has seen the devastating effects of prostate and testicular cancer first-hand. Passionate about changing the face of men’s health, Sanjeev is on a mission to stop men dying too young, with the support of the Mackay/Whitsundays community.

For Sanjeev it all began in 1996, when he graduated as an expert in the field of urology, moving to Mackay two years later. Since then, he’s been on the front line – working with men as they find their way through their prostate and testicular cancer diagnoses. It was during this time that Sanjeev began to notice where men needed some extra help, particularly around understanding the diseases and the importance of early detection.

After a few years of Mo-ing it along, Sanjeev started MOV~Ing Mackay Cricket Club, a team of dedicated Mo Bros from the Mackay region who band together to grow Mo’s and spread the word about men’s health.

Since 2011, the powerhouse team have raised over an impressive $542,600 and started multiple conversations along the way.

As the captain of the MOV-ing Mackay Cricket club, Sanjeev raised $56,250 this year, contributing to his team’s 2019 total of $74,132. The team have once again finished off the month at the top end of the leader board where they ranked fifth nationally and seventeenth worldwide.

Sanjeev said: “I am grateful for all the support I have received from the communities of Mackay and Whitsundays in my last 12 Movember campaigns and hope to continue the crusade for many years to come.”

From writing extensively about men’s health, to building a Movember team made up of individuals who have been through their own cancer experiences, and raising over $390,819 for Movember since 2011 – Sanjeev is one Mo Bro who has truly had an impact on Movember and men’s health.
