My name is Nicolas and I’m from the Dordogne in France.
In 2006, I lost a close friend who was aged just 28 to testicular cancer, which is why I'm so committed to this fight.
I'm even more moved by Movember's actions because I have a colleague and friend who committed suicide. We didn't see it coming.
Movember is the only charity that aims to improve men's health on a global scale, by fighting testicular and prostate cancer, while also trying to prevent male suicides and improve men's mental health. Too many people still don't know what Movember is!
Although I've been wearing a moustache every November since 2013, I've only been raising funds since 2015, having only belatedly learnt of the existence of the Mo Space.
To raise money and awareness, I set up a tombola and a mixed rugby 5-a-side tournament, the Movember Five. The women all wore fake moustaches, sometimes even painted with felt-tip pens - it's great! The choice of rugby as a vehicle for the spreading the Movember message was an obvious one.
Bringing together mixed teams for a rugby tournament seemed to me to be the best way of tackling such a sensitive subject as men's health.
We have to fight to prevent men from remaining trapped in the denial of diseases that affect the and make sure that this movement takes on as much momentum as Pink October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month).
Mo best,
Nicolas
