My name is Ben Bischoff AKA Bisho. I’m 44 and happily married with three kids, and I am an offshore kayak fisho on the Sunshine Coast. We have likely met once or twice over the past few years.
Around five years ago, I had what I call “a moment”, some call it a midlife crisis, but whatever the hell it was, it was by no means pleasant for me, my family and my friends. I’ve always loved the ocean and decided to take up kayak fishing for a bit of ‘me’ time and quickly fell in love. I was amazed by the number of people who also use kayak fishing to manage their mental health.
Row for a Bro – Raising awareness for men’s health
In 2018, I held a small event through the Movember Foundation called Row for a Bro. The purpose was to bring together people. The idea was to kayak fish and have a chat and a bit of banter along the way. We managed to raise around $1700, and the 7 of us had a great day. - https://youtu.be/2T1t96dTYcs
In 2020, Row for a Bro raised over $4000 for the Movember Foundation, and most importantly, 32 of us shared some stories over a BBQ and cold drink. - https://youtu.be/V6ku_JFhfws
This year, Row for a Bro 2021 will be held at Moffat Beach on Sunday, the 21st November 2021, starting at 6 am. We will fire the BBQ up at 11 am and share some stories and maybe even have some fresh fish to cook up.
