My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Mental health and suicide prevention

The last few years have been challenging for nearly everyone, this has lead to additional stress and a general increase in the number of people struggling with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

Mental health issues can be invisible, by the time you notice someone is struggling it can be too late. People, especially men, can often feel ashamed about talking about their own mental health challenges, which can make it hard to identify that they need help. I believe the more we talk about it and the more we recognise that it can affect anyone, for no fault of their own, the more people will feel comfortable in putting up their hand when they need help.

For myself, I have had to put my hand up in the past for help during particularly challenging times and I can tell you personally that talking to someone helped. It helped me make sense of what was going on internally, which helped me to process events and move through issues much quicker than if I had tried to "tough it out" on my own. You wouldn't try to "tough it out" and not get a cast for a broken leg so don't try and deal with mental health issues without support either.

This year for Movember I've decided to make the best of not being able to get to a barber through Covid and donate my hair. That's right, instead of just allowing me to cosplay Neil from the Young Ones or pretend I'm in a shampoo commercial when it's windy, it can be used for a much more noble purpose such as making a wig for people who have lost their hair due to medical treatments.

Since March 2020 I've managed to get it to over 40cm, I'll be getting it cut short to maximise the amount that can be donated and if I manage to get over $1500 I'll also get a picture of me with dodgy mullet on the way for you all.

This decision didn't come lightly, my daughters in particular are already mourning the loss, the more money I raise the more I can justify this to them so please help!

Please give generously and if you are struggling yourself, please reach out to others and seek professional help when you need it. Anonymous services like Lifeline in Australia (call 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14) can be a huge help also.

Hey Nathan,
Thought I’d drop by to say a big hairy thanks for flying the flag for men’s health (again) this year.  I can see you have a really personal connection to the work that Movember is doing – thanks for sharing and being a champion for others.
Loved reading your story and that you're going for the double whammy of donating your luscious locks, at the same time as raising much needed funds, all in the name of a bloody important cause – to help men live happier, healthier and longer lives. Keep it up, you're an absolute legend.
United we Mo
