My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Mental health and suicide prevention

It's that time of year again to get the word out and put the long locks to use.

The last couple of years have been pretty challenging and have highlighted for me the importance for us all to be aware of and maintain our mental health, just as we would our physical health.

Mental health issues can be invisible, by the time you notice someone is struggling it can be too late. People often feel ashamed about talking about their own mental health challenges which can make it hard to identify that they need help. I believe the more we talk about it, the more we recognise that it can affect anyone, for no fault of their own, and we begin to normalise it. The more we normalise it, the more people will feel comfortable in putting up their hand when they need help.

This year for Movember I've decided it's time once again to reap the rewards of saving on hair cuts and and donate my hair. That's right, instead of people asking if I'm going as Jesus Christ or Dave Grohl for Halloween, they'll be asking if I'm fresh out of prison. No longer will I be able to hide small birds and rodents in my hair, or act out a shampoo commercial when it's windy, instead my hair will be used for a much more noble purpose such as making a wig for people who have lost their hair due to medical treatments.

My hair is currently the longest I've ever had it, at over 45cm, I'll be getting it cut short to maximise the amount that can be donated and if I manage to get over $1500 I'll also get a picture of me with dodgy hairstyle on the way for you all.

You can even vote on the hairstyle! In your donation comments please include your vote for one of the following:
- Mullet
- Mohawk
- Bangs

In the true spirit of democracy, money talks. Each $ is a vote so a donation of $20 for "mullet" beats a donation of $15 for "bangs". At the end of the month I'll tally up the votes and determine the winning style. Make your vote count!

Please give generously and if you are struggling yourself, please reach out to others and seek professional help when you need it. Anonymous services like Lifeline in Australia (call 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14) can be a huge help also.

Hey Nathan,
Thought I’d drop by to say a big hairy thanks for flying the flag for men’s health (again) this year.  I can see you have a really personal connection to the work that Movember is doing – thanks for sharing and being a champion for others.
Loved reading your story and that you're going for the double whammy of donating your luscious locks, at the same time as raising much needed funds, all in the name of a bloody important cause – to help men live happier, healthier and longer lives. Keep it up, you're an absolute legend.
United we Mo
- Alex from Mo HQ.
