My dad suffered from mental illness, mainly depression, but went undiagnosed until late in his life. For the longest time, we had no understanding of why he behaved the way he did, and by the time things changed, it was too late. My relationship with my dad had been damaged beyond repair.
I lost my dad years before cancer finally claimed his life.
I'm not alone. Many others have similar stories about their fathers, brothers, sons, friends, colleagues. We all know someone suffering from mental illness of some kind, whether we realise it or not. In our society, men often don't talk about it, because it's "weak". That means they don't get help, even when help is readily available. Let's change that.
In support of men's mental health, I will be walking/running 60km (and more!) this month. Your support will help keep me moving, and maybe together we can help someone out there who is suffering.
