My motivation

Fundraising for cause areas including:

Prostate cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

Even though my attempts to grow a mo have been relatively feeble in the past, I will be trying again this year nonetheless. A couple of years ago my motivation to grow and fundraise for Movember was in support of my dad and prostate cancer. I will still be raising funds in support of him again this year but also in support of mental health awareness and suicide prevention as I have struggled with this in the past.

About seven years ago I experienced an extremely difficult period in my life. I was lucky enough to be able to talk to my family and friends about what happened but I did not want to burden anyone with what was going on in my head. Luckily for me, I have some pretty incredible friends who could see I was struggling and wouldn’t give up on me. Without any request or invitation, they would come around to my house after work, on weekends or really any time they thought I might be down. They sat with me to chat, have a beer or just be there to provide the support I so desperately needed at the time.

In doing this, they made me feel comfortable to discuss how I was feeling and that I was supported. I will never forget the love I was shown during this time and without the unwavered support of my friends and family I’m not sure I could say I would still be here today.

So please, help me to raise money and awareness around mental health and suicide prevention so we can save more dads, sons and brothers in the future.
