My motivation

Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. As someone who used exercise to manage my mental health, this was a huge blow. I lost the confidence to push my body, and everything came to a stop—especially cycling, which I loved. Over time, as my body adapted to Crohn’s, I decided to try something new: running. It wasn’t something I enjoyed before, but I needed a challenge.

Running became my outlet, helping me mentally and physically. Despite injuries and exhaustion, I always reminded myself that running isn’t as painful as a Crohn’s flare-up. Over time, I began to enjoy the sport I used to hate.

So, what does this have to do with Movember?

My journey through Crohn’s has highlighted how critical support is for mental health. I was lucky to have my family, friends and running to help me through tough times. But not everyone has that. In Australia, 1 in 8 men will experience depression, and 1 in 5 will experience anxiety at some stage in their lives. Tragically, 3 out of 4 suicides are men.

I work in a male-dominated industry at a company called Penrith Solar Centre, where we have 77 men on the team. Statistically, some of my colleagues are likely facing mental health challenges right now. Movember is about raising awareness, encouraging conversations, and supporting men who might be struggling.

This Movember, I’ll be running 100 km over the month to raise awareness and funds. As part of this, we’re organizing a big event at work where the whole company will be running laps around the Nepean River for three hours. It’s a team effort, and our company has set a collective goal (1000km) to push ourselves both physically and mentally while contributing to this important cause.

Please consider donating to support men’s mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer programs.

Hey Rob

It’s Graham here from MoHQ. I wanted to personally reach out and thank you for supporting Movember this year. Thousands of Mo’s such as yourself have answered the call to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. You've done a ripping job raising a huge amount of money already.  We've got a week left of the hairy season, so plenty of time to make an even bigger impact.

Thank you helping us take on the big issues facing men. Mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

And good luck with the last couple of KM's!!

Cheers,
Graham
