My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health

My mo’tivation is really quite simple - to highlight the importance of men standing up and taking responsibility for the health of our mates, and our own health.

We are all in a position to be a messenger for men’s health, whether you’re a Mo Sister who is Moving for Movember, or a Mo Bro growing a terrible moustache like me.

I’ve learnt over the past 10 Movembers that one person can make a hell of a difference. Together, we are literally changing the face of men’s health through the funds we raise.

Let’s keep the conversation mo’ing

To My Husband,
I know you are tired and stressed about work and everything else but I wanted to say I am proud of you. I want you to know that I see you, I see everything you do for me, for our family and I appreciate you every single day. I choose you and I will choose you over and over again, every single day and I am proud to call you mine.

Move for Movember done for another year

49 Week(s) Ago

It takes courage to speak up

49 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 7 km00:32:38

32 men lost to suicide over 7km.

5km to go until the target 60km

49 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 5 km00:22:48

5km = 22 men lost to suicide

49 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 5 km00:23:38

We lost 23 men to suicide during this 5km row.

50 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 7 km00:33:29

33 men lost to suicide in the time it took me to row 7km.

One man every minute. Sixty men each hour. Every hour.

Reach out and check in with a mate today

50 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 8 km00:38:11

8km in 38:11. That’s 38 men we lost to suicide.

Let’s make a difference

51 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 7 km00:33:47

33 men took their own lives in the time it took me to row 7km this morning.

We lose one man every minute to suicide.

Let’s drive the change to reduce this statistic.

51 Week(s) Ago

The Movember website has plenty of resources that can help you on your fundraising journey. Have a look, download what you need and chuck it up on your socials to help raise awareness about men's health issues, or even cheeky moustache facts

51 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 5 km00:23:47

My 5km row this morning took 23 men lost to suicide.

One man lost for every minute ☹️

51 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 5 km00:22:35

22 men were lost to suicide while I rowed this morning.

Three out of four suicides are men. Too many are toughing it out and struggling alone.

We have to take action to improve mental health and reduce the rate of male suicide.

If a friend hasn’t seemed himself lately, it might be a sign that he’s struggling.

52 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 5 km00:23:07

I kicked off Move for Movember by rowing 5km this morning. We lost 23 men to suicide in the time that it took me to row this distance

100 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 42 km03:32:35

212 men took their lives while I completed my Mo-Row-Thon.

This was by far the hardest thing I have ever done

101 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 30 km02:26:43

This was hard

102 Week(s) Ago

Globally, every minute, a man dies by suicide. In Australia, 75% of suicides are men.

What a shitty statistic.

It is ok to not be ok and it’s ok to talk about it to. It ain’t weak to speak.

102 Week(s) Ago

Lads!! Have the guts to check yo nuts!!

102 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 15 km01:13:00

103 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 12 km01:00:00

12km - 60 minutes - 60 men we lost to suicide

103 Week(s) Ago

The Movember Foundation funds a range of initiatives to improve the quality of life for the 11 million men living with prostate cancer.

103 Week(s) Ago
I rowed 15 km01:12:35

15km - 72 minutes - 72 men that we lost to suicide.

Globally, we lose one guy per minute to suicide

We need to reduce this statistic.

The Mona Lisa is behind #movember Are you??

103 Week(s) Ago

Let’s talk mental health.

Gents, make a commitment this week to give one of your mates a call and just chat.

Over the past few weeks I’ve caught up with some good friends and one thing was clear - we need to talk more. Time goes so fast, and a few months can go by in the blink of an eye.

During that time so much can happen. It may be good, it may also be bad.

Talk to your mates and talk often. It’ll help to clear your mind, it’s great for your well-being too. I can tell you now, I always feel better after talking to my best mates.

Make a commitment and make a call

104 Week(s) Ago

Did you know that in 1967 The Beatles gave away cardboard moustaches with their album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band??

104 Week(s) Ago

Day 2 of Movember and I want to talk about mental health.

70% of men say their friends can rely on them for support, but only 48% say that they rely on their friends. In other words: we’re here for our mates, but worried about asking for help for ourselves. Reaching out is crucial.

Have open conversations.

You don’t need to be an expert and you don’t have to be the sole solution, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life-saving.

104 Week(s) Ago

Here’s a fun fact. Albert Einstein sported his moustache for over 50 years!! That’s commitment right there.

104 Week(s) Ago

Make Man Time.

Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you. Catch up regularly, check in and make time.

Words to live by. It helps to check in with your mates, not only to see how they're doing but also that chat about how you are doing. Don't underestimate the value of man time!!

I ran 6 km00:33:45

33 blokes took their lives when I was running this morning

6 km left in this years Move for Movember. Not going to lie, after a big week of work, late night kids basketball and a large quarter pounder meal for dinner, this was a struggle. Particularly with this morning’s humidity.

But, my struggles this morning are trivial compared to the blokes that I do this for.

155 Week(s) Ago
I ran 8 km00:42:48

42 blokes took their lives while I was running this morning.

The sweat was the real deal this morning!! Man, it’s a muggy morning in Brisbane this morning

I struggled hard this morning and was really annoyed when I got to the 6 km mark - how I was feeling was NOTHING compared to the blokes that are taking their lives.

So, I pushed another 2 km to struggle more.

155 Week(s) Ago

Hello. Is it Mo you’re looking for?

155 Week(s) Ago

What’s your why??

This is my why - family. I’m incredibly proud of mine and everything I do is for them.

I like to think to myself that I’m incredibly lucky. We’re a happy, healthy family. @shellbutler83 and the boys are fantastic and make me feel complete and whole. I’m nothing without my family.

Both Shell and I try to bring the boys up in an incredibly loving environment where they know that it’s ok to talk about how you feel, how proud we are of them, and how important it is to be healthy.

Family. It’s my why.

155 Week(s) Ago

Yeah it does. It’s also a good conversation starter.

It’s great seeing a couple of extra moustaches around the office this year.

Alright team mates. After 8 Movember’s I’m comfortable that I just cannot grow a decent moustache, but I keep coming back.

Let’s get hairy, raise some awareness, raise some funds for The Movember Foundation, and have a cracking time.

Mo on,
Dan
