My motivation

After six years without clean shaving, I have lost the beard to raise money for Men's Health! It has left me feeling naked an vulnerable, however I really feel like I'm making a difference this year!

Living in a world dominated by social media it would be rare to not have exposure to instances of male suicide and mental health issues. In 2018 alone, I have seen several friends’ posts regarding loved ones that have taken their own lives. Through my work, I know that there is an undefined complexity around suicide and although I don't believe there is a blanket solution, Movember states that by improving overall mental health we can reduce the risk of suicide. The first step is to address untreated mental health conditions amongst men, and in my opinion, making sure that men can feel / continue to feel that it is socially acceptable to be open about mental health.

Movember is not only tackling the issues of mental health, but they are also funding innovative projects regarding Prostate and Testicular Cancer. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young Australian men and In Australia, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer before the age of 75. Their goal to is half the number of men dying from both these cancers by 2030.

Moustaches have been shaved, leaderboards have been closed, and eternal glory has been achieved.

It is my great honour to announce the Top 5 from this year’s Mo Government & Council Challenge.

Collectively, this community of 1,376 Mo’s from 245 teams across Australia raised an incredible $434,129. Just unbelievable.

This is where change is being made. You are the people creating a better future for men’s health. So from the tips of our moustaches to the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you for the wonderful impact you’ve made.

Keep on changing the world,
Josh from Team Movember

Some serious movement in the rankings, and even more serious funds raised, with the Government and Council Challenge cracking $200,000 for 2023!

These funds go directly to lifesaving programs, helping men live healthier, longer lives. Every one of you has made that possible - thank you.

The leaderboards don't close until the 12th of December, so time for a final push and share those Mo Spaces far and wide! Could there be a late shift in the top 5?

It's not over 'til it's Mo-ver,

Wow oh wow. Halfway through and we are blown away by your support.

After only 15 days, the Mo Government and Council Challenge is sitting just shy of $100,000 raised. This community is well and truly changing the face of men's health.

Give yourselves a huge pat on the back and keep up the incredible work. A big couple of weeks of goodness on the way.

Inspired by you all,

On 1 November, feeling naked and quite vulnerable without any facial hair for the first time in six years, I had to opportunity to instil some manliness into my life.

Walking through a mall in the city, an injured peregrine falcon was unsuccessfully attempting to fly, crashing into walls, before ending up in a shop.

I was able to corner the poor little guy and wrap him up in my jacket, before the Perth City Ranger was able to take him to the Native Animal Rescue in Malaga.

Apparently he was doing ok and an update to come in the next 2 weeks.

A big thank you to everyone who donated so far. Reaching $2000.00 in 3 days was unbelievable.

Gordy gladly jumped on the shears last night and we had a big video chat with some international appearances to watch the beard go.

About 45 minutes later 6 years of hard work had disappeared and 10 years of my life had come back.

Although most of you were donating so that I would shave the beard off, now the actual task of growing a moustache begins!

Men's health and suicide prevention is something that's really hit home this year, so hopefully I can continue to get some great donations over the month!

On a drunken night out, I had the good idea of saying that if I could raise $1000.00 for men’s health before 1 November 2018, I would clean shave for the first time in six years. I’m really stoked to be raising money for men’s health. I’m really nervous about having to clean shave! My fate is in your hands.

This is how impressed I am with the thought of having to shave.
