My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Prostate cancer

I’m pretty proud of my dad.

As many of you already know, we sadly lost him in 2020 after a long battle with prostate cancer.

He was an inspiration and role model for me and countless others, with one of his strongest and proudest legacies being his involvement and contribution to the prostate cancer community.

He especially loved Movember; through his dedication to its cause he raised over $45k in his 10 year ‘mo bro’ career, and I’m proud to have continued on his legacy.

With your help we've raised over $40k since he passed away, taking our combined total over $85k, and have been inducted into the Movember Hall of Fame! This has blown my expectations out of the water and hit me right in the heart. Thanks to everyone who has contributed - it was extremely touching to feel the impact he had on so many of you.

Many of the treatments that extended his life were funded from programs such as Movember, and I hope that through this I can return the favour for the extra years that we all got to share with the legend that was Rog.

Sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to Rog’s Movember cause over the years - let’s keep it going in his name and work towards $100k lifetime fundraising!

I’ve also kept Rog’s motivation message from previous years just below here to preserve his words and story as I hope to continue this page on for many years.

--- Rog’s Motivation ---

Globally, more than 1.4M men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Movember is working to halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young.

Thanks to you all for supporting Movember 18. Your support for my effort raised over $7000 last year and pushed the total raised by my mousgras during the past 9 years to just over $34,000.
A year has passed and I am asking you to support this great program again. Many of the treatment options that are available for me now were non-existent four years ago, but R&D funded by programs like Movember are now coming to fruition.

In December last year I started a phase 2 trial comparing Lutetium 177 PSMA ( a seek and destroy radioactive protein – engineered at Lucas Heights here in Sydney) with a relatively new Chemo: Cabazitaxel. I was fortunate to be on the Lute arm of the trial – a treatment that has had spectacular results for many men – but it didn’t work for me. It did knock off some of the older tumours but new ones were developing. With my PSA on the rise I was taken off the trial and placed on Cabazitaxel.

Cabazitaxel is a much gentler chemo than the Docetaxel (Taxotere@) I was on in 2017/18. No hair loss or impact on taste buds so far, but fatigue has been an issue. During the first four infusions my PSA continued to rise but the advice was to persist. And “Geronimo”! over the last 11 weeks my PSA has dropped from a scary 2500 to 1600. I had the 9th infusion on Oct 15 with the expectation that this treatment will continue to keep the cancer at bay.
Pneumonia (a complication often caused by chemo) placed me in hospital for 8 days in late September. This is now history, and I am starting to feel stronger and my huff and puff is coming back.

The millions of dollars raised through Movember has been beyond everyone’s expectations. Prostate is cancer is changing from being a terminal to a chronic disease. Donations to Movember also support Men’s Health programs including suicide prevention and testicular cancer research.

Your Donations, no matter how small all, add up.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but here's a photo of the mo at the end of the month with my favourite photo of the great man, standing in the finished product of the kitchen we were demolishing in the profile picture.

I'm so humbled and amazed by the generous donations; It says a lot about the impact that Dad had on everyone and also how much support there is for this great cause. I've loved reading everyone's messages, especially from people I've never met.

I said in my motivation that I'm proud of my dad. I know he'd be proud of me for continuing his legacy (and I'm pretty bloody proud of myself, too!)

Thank you all ♥

Irene and I got the die out to make things more visible - this is stage 1. Wait for Stage 2 of the process - we are having trouble recovering from the laughter this caused.
After a shower and a sleep the mo is now 3 shades dark - Using the "Just for Rog" preparation provided by Andy

Day 14 Still not much there - look closer and you may see a few wisps - like a prepubescent boy

Day 13 and not much is happening above the top lip - although there is some grass under my chin. The price of keeping above the grass. I have started on a new drug Xtandi and is has retarded the facial hair growth.

Note: As donations can be made privately, not all donations are displayed to the public.
