My motivation

Welcome to my 16th year of Movember. The month of raising donation and spreading awareness for men’s health and mental health. I’ve received so much support over the years and am truly appreciative. So thank you again for visiting and helping me on my journey.

Movember has become a time to also reflect on my own mental health, and what a journey it has been. I didn’t choose the path I was given, to have mental health struggles, but I have chosen what to do about it. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learnt so much about myself and about mental health in general and it’s important to me to share that and help where I can.

Movember has helped men’s health become a household topic. Men who are known to not go to the doctors til it’s an emergency, or those who believed they could never open up, and didn’t, leading us to lose them.

Now as a father I make sure my boys know that they’re allowed to have emotions and to feel safe having them, despite the constant societal messages that still say otherwise. Being open about seeing a therapist and helping to normalise the process that goes along with it.

I support the programs that Movember continue to fund and I’m glad I can take part in helping them achieve their goals, which in turn helps me achieve my own goals, because everyone should be able to feel comfortable being open about their mental health journeys.

I appreciate that just seeing someone with a mo on their face in the month of November can start a conversation or just brings up a thought that support is out there.
