While you're out there kicking goals for men’s health, it’s important to remember to extend your support for others - to yourself. After all, we know we’re better at reaching our goals and looking after others when we’re feeling well and at our best.
In the name of self-care while you Move for Movember, here’s 4 tips to keep you connected, mindful, and sweaty during the hairy month - courtesy of our Major Partner, lululemon.
GO INWARD
The time you take to connect with yourself will positively influence your day-to-day, and how you connect with others. Take a moment each day to go inward, reflect, breathe and get grounded.
lululemon's favourite way to venture ‘in’ is by practicing yoga. Check out a 20 minute restorative flow with lululemon ambassador, Chelsea Jackson Roberts here.
Stillness can be an effective way to witness the movement through the mind, so for this lululemon recommend creating space to meditate. Even 5 - 10 minutes is better than 0 minutes! Here you’ll find a few of their favourite guided meditation recordings to support you on your way.
SPEND TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD
Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you. Catch up regularly, check in and make time. If you’re governed by COVID-19 restrictions, call your family, wave to your neighbours and really put the ‘social’ back in social media. lululemon feel the connection in the lululemon sweatlife AusNZ Facebook group, and you can too.
Hot Tip: join the lululemon Australia and New Zealand Movember fundraising challenge to connect with others focused on the same goals as you.
UNLEASH THE ENDORPHINS (Indoor-phins for those sweating at home)
Add more activity to your day and do more of what makes you feel good, to reach your Movember Move goals:
Better yet, sweat it out with a 25 minute session to stretch and strengthen or a 45 minute bodyweight workout doable from the convenience of your home or local park.
HAVE A CONVERSATION
Being there for someone - asking, listening, encouraging action and checking in - can be life-saving. Equally, it’s important we take the time to sit in the other seat - sharing how we feel with others, allowing our mates to check in on us, and practicing the art of contributing to a conversation.
To help master this practice, tune in to Mo Conversations with Movember's Kieran Ryan, hosted by lululemon. Featuring special guests every Sunday at 4pm during moustache season, you can find them on @lululemonausnz Instagram.
