Australian Cricket and the Mo have a long and hairy history. Some of our nation’s best players have worn a lip rug to terrify the opposition on the pitch from Dennis Lillee’s intimidating Box Car to the menacing Merv Hughes’ Trucker. But more recently, these moustaches have taken on another meaning.

Not only have they being grown to scare off the Poms during the Ashes, they are also helping our Aussie cricketers do something good during Movember.

This year, our Aussie Fast Bowlers Unit proudly wore Mo’s in an effort to change the face of men’s health, along with Mo Sistas Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry who each Moved for Men’s Health. We caught up with the cricketers to see who their Mo’spiration was throughout the month that kept them going through the itchy start before their Mo’s took on full glory for the first Ashes Test.

My Movember inspiration is Mitch Johnson. The last time the Poms were out here, him wearing his Mo and him absolutely destroying their batting line up.

My Mo inspiration is DK Lillee. This Mo helps me bowl the way he used to.
                                                                                                                   - Josh Hazlewood

My Mo’spiration is David Boon. He’s got a really dense moustache just covering the top lip. I don’t think I’d be able to grow it down lower like Mitch Johnson did, so I just stick to the Boonie Business Man.
                                                                                                                   - Pat Cummins

Merv Hughes was my inspiration this Movember. Being a fellow Victorian, it was great to see him every Boxing Day in front of Bay 13!

Over the ten year partnership between Cricket Australia and Movember, these Cricket Mo’s and other Moustaches from the Cricket Australia and Club Cricket Cares community have helped to do a lot of good raising over $1 million to stop men dying too young.
