Charlotte Connell is the team captain of Sydney's Morning Mo Sistas. To honour her dad’s Mo, Charlotte wore a Mo each day of Movember.

Movember: How did you first hear about Movember and why did you get involved?

Charlotte: I’ve always been a fan of a man with a Mo and became exposed to Movember through work colleagues. I was inspired to be Mo Sista in 2012 when my dad was going through chemo for prostate cancer. And this year 8 of my girlfriends joined me in wearing a Mo everyday of Movember.

Movember: Why is men’s health important to you?

Charlotte: Health is incredibly important. I lost my uncle to bowel cancer recently and my dad is still fighting prostate cancer. And through having conversations about dad's cancer a work colleague of mine and a family friend both were inspired to get tested and caught prostate cancer early. Men aren't always the greatest at opening up and talking but Movember provides a fun and open platform to do this.

Movember: What is your most memorable Movember moment?

Charlotte: Pretty much every day of Movember hanging out with my Morning Mo Sistas and our Mo’s. Sometimes it was tough fronting up with a fake Mo on my upper lip but overwhelmingly the reactions were positive and perhaps the best moment was when a complete stranger came up to me and hugged me. He told me he had survived prostate cancer and thanked me for raising the profile. Of course there were hilarious moments too, and also giving my family something positive to focus on, my mum called each day to see what Mo I would be wearing.

Movember: What do you like most about participating in Movember?

Charlotte: I really love how having a Mo firstly makes someone smile and secondly makes them think about men's health. Also the way Movember links up researchers from around the world to coordinate their efforts. Plus it's a lot of fun!

Movember: Has Movember had a direct impact on your family, friends or community?

Charlotte: Yes, it's given my family a positive focus. For my dad, I have no doubt that the efforts and funds provided by Movember to prostate cancer research will result in newer and less destructive treatments for his cancer.
