My motivation

I'm raising funds and awareness this Movember for all the dads, brothers, sons and mates in our lives enduring mental health issues.
We all face challenges from time to time. Sometimes they are self-imposed while others are outside of our control. It's easy to put on a brave face, to be seen as strong and think we are invincible. Unfortunately that tried and true strategy has major limitations which I have experienced over the last few years. The support of family and, more importantly in my case, close running friends has ensured I've had an outlet to discuss my challenges. Even at the ripe old age of 45 it's possible to learn vulnerability.
But this isn't all about me. I've seen mental health issues affect a close family member who came close to taking his own life. I also deal with farmers, predominantly male, in my day-to-day work and have heard many touching stories from their lives relating to mental health.
As a society we have a lot more work to do in order to break down the stigma of mental health regardless of gender. I want my 3 teenage boys to be empowered to ask for help knowing they won't be judged.
Growing a dubious mo and setting a running target of 400km for November to raise awareness for the cause is easy. Actually admitting when we need help is the challenge.

mo is a bit shabby. Didn't have time for a tidy up shave between running 70km (and setting a Fastest Known Time for the Bendigo Bushland Trail with a running mate Sarah) and a few days recovery
