My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health
Prostate cancer
Mental health and suicide prevention

Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health, and this Movember I'm joining them. Together we can make a difference for men's health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Help me stop men dying too young.

I personally, have witnessed and been through my own share of issues.

My first reason to take part in Movember is in memory of my dad - my greatest role model I had growing up. He was diagnosed back in 2001 with prostate cancer. He went into remission in late 2002. However, in mid 2003, it returned and metastasised. He lost his battle at the end of November, 2004 at the age of 62.

My second reason in wanting to be a part of Movember is to raise awareness of men's mental health. With my father's passing, began the start of my mental health battles. I have been battling with depression since my father's passing up until most recently at the start of this year.

On many occasions throughout the years, I have thought about ending it, with a couple of occasions I did try. Recovering from my attempts at suicide got me thinking at the time - the negative stigma that would/could have followed me if I did end it, like people saying "he's a quiter" or "he's weak", got me thinking of ways I could end it, without looking like an obvious suicide and carrying the negative stigma on the way I went.

It was on a late night in mid October 2008, when I made a decision I needed to get help. I was driving home, along a quiet country road. I was at my lowest mental state. I was doing well over the speed limit, hoping I would lose control and it would all be over. What stopped/saved me that night, was to be pulled over by the police. Instead of reprimanding me, he talked to me, encouraged me to seek help.

I won't say I'm 100% over my mental health issues, but I have learned coping mechanisms to help me stay on top.

My final reason to be a part of Movember is to promote health issues Indigenous men experience.

Moustaches have been shaved, leaderboards have been closed, and eternal glory has been achieved.

It is my great honour to announce the Top 5 from this year’s Mo Government & Council Challenge.

Collectively, this community of 1,376 Mo’s from 245 teams across Australia raised an incredible $434,129. Just unbelievable.

This is where change is being made. You are the people creating a better future for men’s health. So from the tips of our moustaches to the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you for the wonderful impact you’ve made.

Keep on changing the world,
Josh from Team Movember

Some serious movement in the rankings, and even more serious funds raised, with the Government and Council Challenge cracking $200,000 for 2023!

These funds go directly to lifesaving programs, helping men live healthier, longer lives. Every one of you has made that possible - thank you.

The leaderboards don't close until the 12th of December, so time for a final push and share those Mo Spaces far and wide! Could there be a late shift in the top 5?

It's not over 'til it's Mo-ver,

Wow oh wow. Halfway through and we are blown away by your support.

After only 15 days, the Mo Government and Council Challenge is sitting just shy of $100,000 raised. This community is well and truly changing the face of men's health.

Give yourselves a huge pat on the back and keep up the incredible work. A big couple of weeks of goodness on the way.

Inspired by you all,
Josh from Team Movember
