I take part in Movember because men’s mental health matters to me...and, cause I like moustaches.
Over the years, I’ve had my own ups and downs, and I know how easy it is to slip into the “I’m fine” mode that so many of us rely on. Growing a moustache each November is my small reminder to keep showing up. For myself, for my mates, and for the men who don’t feel like they can speak up yet.
I’ve done Movember several times now. Some years I’ve raised more, some years less, but every time, it’s reminded me that conversation is where change starts. It’s not about perfection or pretending everything’s okay. It’s about staying connected, doing something active, and normalizing the idea that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
This year, I’m also moving 60 km, one for every man lost to suicide each hour, around the world. Each kilometer is a step toward awareness, prevention, and a healthier culture for men everywhere.
So while the moustache might look questionable, the mission isn’t: it’s about movement, connection, and keeping the conversation alive.
If you’ve ever struggled silently, or helped a mate who has, this one’s for you too.
