This June, Movember and The Push-Up Challenge are working together towards a common goal: to deliver an epic mental health event and straight-up save lives. The partnership is built upon community support, something longstanding Mo Bro, Tom is a part of.

We recently chatted to Tom to celebrate his epic involvement in Movember. This year marks Tom’s 10th year of being a Mo Bro, an impressive statistic which places him up there with some of our most legendary Mo’s.

Working as a PE teacher at an all-boys school, changing the stigma around men's mental health is an integral part of the work Tom does. Movember has been a driving force for Tom, enabling him to encourage conversations and break down walls within his community.

As captain of the St MOsephs College Movember Team, Tom encourages engagement across his community, helping raise thousands for men’s health over the years, but he hasn’t stopped there. Always seeking ways to continue these conversations, The Push-Up Challenge presented another great opportunity to take action towards men’s health.

Tom has been completing push-ups year after year, with each push-up representing the number of Australians who died by suicide.

“My brother got me into this as a challenge in the first lockdown in 2020, and I have been involved ever since,” Tom says of his participation in The Push-Up Challenge. “I’m very proactive and strong willed when it comes to making a change,” says Tom, which is why participating was a no brainer. Both Movember and The Push-Up Challenge have become two events which are now a lock in his calendar every year. The connection, community, and conversations created off the back of both Movember and The Push-Up Challenge are both educational and impactful.

Push-ups have become something Tom looks forward to. Getting his wife involved in the challenge has kept him accountable and provided the encouragement needed when the push-ups get hard.

The Push-Up Challenge is great opportunity for the Mo community to continue to shake up the status quo together. As a major beneficiary of The Push-Up Challenge, Movember will continue taking on mental health and suicide prevention to stop me from dying too young.
